True story,
Word of Honor:
Joseph Heller, an important and funny writer now dead, and I were at a party given by a billionaire on Shelter Island.
I said, “Joe, how does it make you feel to know that our host only yesterday may have made more money than your novel ‘Catch-22′ has earned in its entire history?”
And Joe said, “I’ve got something he can never have.”
And I said, “What on earth could that be, Joe?”
And Joe said, “The knowledge that I’ve got enough.”
Not bad! Rest in peace!” – Kurt Vonnegut

“28 MEMORIES”
- I’m a hot-blooded, métis woman of uncertain age. Who is a nomadic, chaotic and at times dysfunctional home, to a fragile, Russian Soul ~ Full of flaws, absurdities, contradictions, insecurities and vulnerability. Brave, honest, compassionate and all or nothing. Often disagreeable, sometimes selfish and incredibly stubborn. But above all, it’s a soul that will never have a price and the one, a Foreigner will never fully understand.
- Arrived solo in USA in 2003
- I hold a dual citizenship with United States of America & Russian Federation
- Bilingual – Russian & English ( would really like to learn French )
- I’m unmarried ( most of the time, happily. ) & it’s complicated
- Turned 18 when I lost my father to cancer
- I’m a Cultural Chameleon, but not a Russian spy ( so stop asking )
- Love being on the road with as less stuff as possible & embrace solo travel.
- I’m passionate about Life, travel, cinema, photography & writing … What’s Your Passion?
- I believe in Compassion & Giving back
- I’m not good with planning, but know how to Travel The World on the cheap & got rid of my “bucket list”,
TV, facebook, myspaceandtwitter. Also have 0 interest in having a mortgage, credit cards, 9-5 job, huge SUV’s & play dates. - I left my ♥ in Bali, New York, Zambia, Zanzibar, San Francisco, Russia & Morocco, however don’t ever want to go back to Las Vegas.
- Bungee jumped 111m, Walked with Lions & swam in the most Dangerous Pool in The World
- Met 42nd President of the United States & had my hand kissed by a Prince ( not the singer… although that would have been nice too )
- Traveled by several crazy Kenyan Matatus , danced with Maasai Warriors and traveled by Boda-Boda’s in Uganda.
- Got tangled up with a Python, swam with a Dolphin, got really close to Gorillas in The Mist & danced with a Cobra
- Played harmonica with an Elephant while being on his back
- Got up, close and personal with Monkeys & did ceremonies with locals in Bali
- Zip-lined at the Original Canopy Tour in Costa Rica
- Almost got married several times and one of them was to a beautiful woman
- Worked on a few Hollywood films , modeled & member of SAG – AFTRA Guild of America
- No matter how fat the check for reality tv or for some tasteless “hollywood produce” is , I’d rather be broke for the rest of my life than have my name and my face anywhere near that kind of “art” … However, if you are a producer or director of the next film about Mata Hari, Cleopatra, Phoolan Devi, Isabelle Eberhardt, Elizabeth Zarubina, or any other project with a soul, story and interesting characters, give me a buzz.
- Attended all major Hollywood Red Carpet events. ( and would trade all that for RTW ticket in a second )
- Persuaded a manager of the bank to open it on a Sunday morning in Zanzibar, Tanzania & checkmated Harvard graduate after a few moves (my father would’ve been very proud)
- What I love ; coffee, Frank Sinatra, Juliette Binoche, dancing, people watching, Honest Films, ARTIST’S , antiques & Blues. But not a fan of
shopping & beauty salons— do my own hair, nails and make up, thank you very much. I am a true Minimalist ~ My closet is always half empty and when I say ” I’ll be ready in 10 minutes “, I actually mean it.. The art of looking good and having your own style has very little to do with how much you pay for your clothes and what color the soles of your shoes are. Buying hundreds or thousands of dollars stuff in order to look classy, stylish and expensive won’t work, if you don’t know how to wear a 20 dollar dress and look like a million bucks…
- Quit smoking “cold turkey” in 2008 after smoking for 10 years and have been smoke free ever since. (however, I do miss a good cigar sometimes)
- Stepped over the railing at“The Peak” in Hong Kong.
- Spent my 28th Birthday in the highest dunes of Sahara, survived sandstorm at Giza Pyramids & visited a place that was once Cleopatra’s wedding gift. Saw one of the best Flamenco performances in the world. Traveled through and lived in Morocco. Shared food with a Nomad family in Sahara. Fell in love with Sitges. Had the best Tapas in Barcelona at “Tapeo” restaurant. Watched Madrid / Barcelona match with locals in Rubi. Lived in Moscow for a few months after 9 years of absence. Experienced Russian Extreme on top of ATV, in the mud, lakes and forests of “Rublevka”, jumped out of the perfectly good airplane in the middle of Russian winter, Ice skated and greeted 2013 with fireworks in the Red Square.
“We have to become lost before we can find ourselves. That sort of map you make up as you go along.” ~ Stirling Silliphant
Social status has never been a goal or a priority of mine. I can’t tell the difference between jimmy choos and prada. To me it’s just a shiny wrapper with no substance or real value. Our world today has more important issues to deal with, than a decision making of what brand of shoes to buy this afternoon or what color the highlights should be.
Agree?
We get bombarded with slogans that scream at us that we’re not good enough, cool enough, young enough, beautiful enough…fill in the blank…
→ You are enough! ←
You are beautiful and unique in your own amazing way! Don’t ever let anyone sabotage or doubt that… not even yourself..
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” ~ Mark Twain
~
What matters at the end of the day are not things at all … It’s all those shared moments of laughter, joy, love and everything in between with people we love.
It’s about creating yourself, discovering the world around us and helping each other along the way.
And it’s also about dancing while the music is being played…
I’ve always wanted to write about my travels, but I was too young & overwhelmingly impatient.
But it’s never too late to start again.. (let’s see how long this will last) I hope you will find some of this information useful for your own adventures.
Safe Travels to all of you free spirits out there and Bon Voyage!
Keep dreaming, keep exploring and keep following your hearts!

My first ”like” of a true celebrity haha!
Loving your work too by the way, it’s awesome!
I admire and love your mantra, “choosing to collect memories instead of things”. I completely agree. I would rather live below my means, yet travel the world, then have the biggest SUV on the block. But I will collect one more thing, an interesting blog from a blessed world traveler. May we meet in the air port some day. Bravo!
I would love that! : )

I do agree, and some of your about me’s sound like myself. Thanks for stopping by at EncompassingChaos. It is great to come into contact with another soul who sees through the shadows of names and commodities and all of the obsessions of our ‘modern’ society. I too am a collector of memories and experience verses material possessions. I have just taken a different journey with children who teach me patience and consistency, but after my lessons my husband and I hope to have no boundaries. Until then I think I will live vicariously through you. Ha, just kidding. Thanks for being true to your soul and letting it take you where to go. If you are ever in the Memphis, TN area I have a futon you can rest on and open ears for a story.
Wow!
Thanks for the ‘like’, it brought me to you. Extraordinary.
Elena, thank you for liking my Beatles work at Grace Line Arts! So glad you stopped by. I love your writing and your philosophies on life. Thank you for helping your readers get outside the cultural boxes we’ve learned to put ourselves in.

Dear Elana,
Thank you for liking my post. It is early in my blogging and I enjoy reading others. I have also believed we should collect memories and not things. It is the memories that make our life rich and enjoyable. Besides the things we collect will only be left for someone else to dispose of after we are gone.
Great writings! And even better philosophies of life. Peace.
Wanted hit the like button but could not find one so, I liked your post.
Hi Elena,
Thanks for stopping by my blog, it led me to yours, and I am glad it did. I love how unique and powerful your writing is. Your writing is just so much more than words, and in this age of far too many blogs, that is a rare quality.
I also admire your philosophy of life and travel and can imagine that it takes a while before one gets to that level of self awareness. That said, you are an inspiration.
Happy travels!
-Natasha
Thank you very much, Natasha!
love & light to you and yours
Love your quote on Mark Twain. I saw it on a piece of canvas right after my husband asked me if I wanted to move to Australia because of his work. It inspired me to drop my life in the US and move with my husband and baby across the world with high hopes of seeing more of it. Live life simply and you get to see really what it is all about.
BTW you are beautiful.
wow! Great choice you made! Congrats! I once too, almost moved there, because of a man, but something told me… “not yet” and I stayed. Thank you for the compliment!

Thank you also for sharing your travels with us.

Elena,
Thanks for dropping into my blog. It seems we have writing, photography and travel in common. Ways to keep us thinking, observing, feeling, learning and living well – mostly well, ultimately well.
I love wide, open spaces, I’m from Australia. I believe that, as a species, we pass too much time in the built environment. That’s where people lost themselves, their intuition, their perspective.
The vibrancy in your site is upbeat, contagious, rebellious, ‘free’… but am worried about that fur… is it real?
Life is an adventure and we live it and all its cliches apart from when we get off the beaten track see ourselves for real.
Enjoy!
KMY
Thank you for reading. Agree with a lot of things you said. To answer your question – Yes, it’s real. That “fur” was donated to help a family pay off medical bills, who’s son died.. do you have any problem with that?
Well, yes a bit Elena, and it is MY problem. I’m getting a bit semantic here – I consider it more a concern than a problem. I’m into humane behaviour toward all sensate creatures, not just human beings. For me, there’s a certain arrogance in our response to the rest of the animal kingdom and our relentless pursuit of happiness in places of interest, challenge, peace, harmony – whatever an individual seeks. No question we will hunt, kill and maim other species in the natural process of survival. It’s when we we move beyond what we ‘need’ and toward luxury that I ponder what might be an acceptable natural order. People have developed an approach of doing things because we can. This can and has lead to innovation and triumphs in art and science and philosophy etc etc but it has also lead to less constructive outcomes. There’s black and white and a multitude of grey for each one of us how we move through the world. I think I probably asked about the fur because, to me, it seemed inconsistent with your compassionate musings and vivacious appreciation of life.
Thanks for asking.
Best wishes,
KMY
agree. However, that “fur” was not bought by me.. I don’t buy “fur” . I donated it to people who needed money. You can discuss all you want about “inhumane” nature of how the world works and how animals are being killed, but I’d love for you to give the same speech to a Maasai warrior in Kenya.. who kill animals because they have to SURVIVE… they have to feed their children.. all the fur that I actually do wear is fake. When you and I sit on a post bus in Uganda ( I highly doubt that I ever would see you there ) next to a child who haven’t ate for days and then is offered cow meat, I would love to discuss luxury and “inhumane” treatment of animals with you.. maybe you should read a few posts of mine from rural Africa, before you judge someone from 1 picture with a coat that happened to have fur on it.
all the best to you too
el
Elena,
I wrote my reply openly partly because your comment box is headed ‘speak your truth’, which I love. I had no intention to offend. Perhaps I did not emphasise sufficiently the section:
‘It’s when we we move beyond what we ‘need’ and toward luxury that I ponder what might be an acceptable natural order.’
By ‘we’, I refer to the majority of ‘we’ in the west/developed world who have far, far more than we need to ‘survive’.
And no, I didn’t miss the part about you donating the money to people who need it, and yes, I have been on buses in Kenya (no, not Uganda but Tanzania and Zimbabwe) up near the Ethiopian border which the Kenyan government had neglected for decades when I was there, and I sent to the Turkana people on the lake a huge box filled with pens, pencils, exercise books and contemporary texts for maths and English because they were working from donated books that were so old as to be almost irrelevant to contemporary life in the developed world. I have never needed, and have the good fortune to foresee that I will never need, to walk 5 – 10 kms a day to get water for cooking and drinking. Every time I turn on a tap, I use the water sparingly, despite the fact that there is plenty in most places I am.
I have lived and worked in a number of developing countries; I work to increase understanding and cohesion between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people in Australia, (not a small number of the former constitute my circle of friends). Such actions are true and honest gestures that I hope make constructive contributions in the places I move.
I had a sense that you thought similarly. I was interested to make a dialogue with you, and thought I had commented positively about your site, your verve for life etc. The garment was, to me, one piece of a larger whole. I hope you can believe that, if I were to judge you (and I see little reason to do so), that impressions I drew would be founded more on the life and passion in your site than a few shots of you in a ‘fur’.
KMY
all my love to you. Peace.
and to you. Enjoy!

Elena,
Thanks for letting us in so much. I wish I could be as courageous as you are! But then I realize we just have very different styles – as you could see by how different I approached visiting Morocco from the way you did.
I love your quote from Mark Twain, by the way. I’m a big Twain fan.
Thanks also for your interest in my blog, The Dairy Free Traveler. I recently left the wordpress.com nest and am now self-hosting, so I don’t get the instant gratification of seeing people’s “likes” to let me know they’re reading. I must admit, it is a bit lonely out here in self-hosting land. But I am working to re-connect to people as best I can.
Toward that end, please feel free to leave comments on my posts if so inclined to let me know when and why something appeals to you. I promise in turn that I will not be a stranger on your site!
All the best,
Karl

Hi Elena,
Thanks for stopping by and liking the post on the white, mountain village of Comares, on my East of Málaga blog.
Did you manage to travel to Spain when you were so close – in Morocco? I´m sure you would love the people and the culture. I do – in fact, I moved to live there! Actor Antonio Banderas hails from just down the road, in Málaga.
I try to live my life according to this quote by Eleanor Roosevelt:
“The purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experiences.”
I wish you happy travels and a happy life.
Marianne
Thank you Marianne.
Going back to live in Morocco for a month, then to Spain in October.
Love that quote!
What a fabulous life you’ve created for yourself! Keep dreaming and creating, I hope to have a travel list as extensive as yours someday!
I’m glad you stumbled into my blog so I stumbled into yours. Okay so I don;t have your Hollywood connections but I share a lot of your sentiments. Happy trails!!

Cool blog…I love the title! Thanks for visiting my blog and ‘liking’ my photo!
I’ll bet you hear this a lot, but I really like your comment about collecting memories rather than things. In my early travels I collected a lot of things along with the memories, but it didn’t take me long to realize the difference. Memories are cheaper, they last as long as we do, we don’t have to worry about breaking them, we take them with us wherever we go and they don’t clutter up our lives. So much better!

Elena,
As I’m presently into my third full month of year-long travel (which includes an RTW), sometimes it’s not easy having to be constantly on the move without a real home to call my own. However, I’m very fortunate I’ve been to call upon friends around with whom I can stay; they’ve all been great, helpful, and understanding, and without them, this whole “experiment” or enterprise would not have possible.
Thanks for having stopped by to have a look and liking the recent “San Francisco” gallery-post on my blog.
Take care, and I look forward to reading about your upcoming journey to Morocco, Egypt, and Turkey! (re. /2012/03/20/la-morocco-egypt-turkey-la/)

My husband and I made a pact early in our marriage, when we are old we will be able to say, “do you remember when?” instead of, “I wish we had.” I turned 70 last year and we have been married 53 years. We are saying, do you remember when…” though there will always be some things we wish we could still do.
Thank you for a wonderful comment! Congratulations on an amazing union! I like the way you live! Wishing your family many more years that you can remember later! ; )

Elena, I thank you for your prompt reply. It might take some time for me to write an article about you since I have launched a new blog “Inspirations” (http://tvaraj2inspirations.wordpress.com/). If you can find time, please visit this blog.

Hi Elena, thanks so much for liking my Gambian birds blog post!
I would love to give you more “likes” but unfortunately, as far as i see, there are no “like” buttons on your blog.
What a wonderful page! So simple, but powerfully honest. Many great philosophies and ideas to keep in mind about life and living. Its easy to have a life, but much harder to really live it.
hey Elena
you speak from the heart & soul
your blog is like a Hindi Zhara record
thanks for the “like” ping on the “How To Sleep On A Plane” post on my blog
may you continue your journey seeing yourself through the people you meet & places you go, enjoy every present moment

Nice to meet you, thanks for reading my lists because now I came to see your amazing blog and all your great writings and photos, very nice.
Elena, thanks for reading my post. Your description of yourself in 27 sentences is amazing. Look at me just a year younger than you, and haven’t done anything so magnificent. I am not an adventurous soul but I do love to travel and have done a fair bit of it.Your post is very inspiring. Thanks!

Interesting About Me … Anyway, I am impressed with your travel stories (I did some browsing before I landed here.) more so of the fact that you are one daredevil woman. You just made my balls shrink because of that photo of yours — the one showing you did bungee jumping. Kudos, Madam!
hahaha thanks for making me laugh! : )) yeah, that bungee was the one the girl fell from a couple of months after my jump..
el
oops … thank for pointing that out. still, you rock!
I mean, thanks!
I enjoyed looking at your blog, what a delightfully adventurous life! Thanks for the inspirational quote. Looks like you’re missing South America in your life, plan on going any time soon?

Hi Elena, thanks for liking my blog about “Durham Doorways” and helping me to find you, you have made my Saturday morning breakfast as I sit here basking in the sheer energy and “glow” of all that you are about! I am going to subscribe so I can keep enjoying what you have to share.
Thank you so much El, for liking my post.
You have a great blog, and website!
It’s a pleasurable journey going through them; now, I find more meaning as I travel and travail, to places and spaces…
Cheers!
I enjoyed getting to know you this evening through your bio-personal history. Thank you for the like at http://www.corinthrose.wordpress.com, Elena. Also, I like the name “Elena”…it was my great grandmothers.
Greetings, El!
As Morcheeba said: “…just enjoy the ride…”
Thank you and good traveling!
beautiful blog, beautiful sentiments. You’re a wise soul and happy traveler. I’m glad you enjoyed San Francisco so much, though it doesn’t surprise me.
Thanks for stopping by my Vancouver trip, it is quite a lovely place.
There is so much good stuff written above, it makes we wonder how all the dull people can cope with day to day drudgery. Travel, it’s all about the journey, not the arrival. My recent holiday to Sweden was fun, but the journey home in heavy snow, and freezing temperatures was exhilarating.
Have a fun weekend (I think you will).
Hi there!
We both share passion for travel, not planning & coffee : )
Agree, that it is all about the journey, not just travel, but life itself. Every person has a story to tell and every person is on their own unique journey. That’s what always fascinates me about meeting other people.. is their unique story.. No life is dull, each road is full of magic, one just have to learn to walk with eyes and heart wide open.

“I choose to collect memories instead of things”….I really love that. A personal ritual that I have when I travel is to bring back the music of the place, when I hear it there, instead of physical things…a violin concerto from Poland, Verdi from Italy, a local band from Costa Rica. Then, when I am home, and I playback the music, the memories associated with the location come rushing in. You seem like the same kind of person. Cheers to you and your personal, memorable, unique style that is all your own…
Thank you beautiful!
wow! It’s a wonderful way to keep a piece of that country! I do that too sometimes : )
love & light you you!
Thank you for your kind words.
May there always be a road ..

You have a great story and a passion that is admirable! And I love the photos!
Hi Elena,
great blog you have.
We would like to thank you for your interest in our straw bale hotel. Actually, my mothers name is Elena. We are Greeks.

Hi pretty lady! Even though I’ve only “known” you for a short time, you have definitely inspired me, so I would love to honor you as I have been with the Versatile Blogger Award: http://6monthstolive.wordpress.com/2012/02/13/honored-humbled-part-2/ Keep up the beautiful writing and insights into life!
You should read our Russian story, and let us know what you think of it. We tried to get a naked photo at the Red Square but we didn’t think it would be worth spending a night in prison.
guys, you’re hilarious! I was laughing a lot through your post! But come on, not all Russian girls like MD! : )) You know, if you paid $$$ to a cop, I’m sure he would be ok with turning his back for a few minutes, while you take that shot…
Oh.. mother Russia.. how forever misunderstood you are…even by those you gave birth to..
But hey, you learned how to cook Borsh and survived our glorious train rides .. If you can survive in Russia.. you can do it anywhere !
Let there always be a road..
el
I am loving everything you’re writing about and living! I can’t wait to read and explore more. Would you be at all interested in doing a guest blog for my site about one of the many places you’ve traveled? Maybe about Russia?
But no pressure–I’ll continue to follow your blog, regardless.
Dear Sarah, Thank you so much for reading and for your invitation to write a guest post..
I am sooo new at this .. just trying to keep up with my own blog.. I’ve only posted 20 posts.. It’s kind of a crazy time for me right now, as I’m juggling a few big projects. ( I have no idea how people keep up with all of their social networks and manage to get something done ) But maybe when I’m more fluent with this wordpress thing and when I have more free time.. I’d love to write a guest post, although I have never done so before.. I think I’m just better at writing only when I really feel it.. ( I’m sure you can relate )
ps – I am following you and it’s cool that we chose the same theme.. I like it, it’s clean and simple and you can’t really “hide” behind the hustle and bustle of too much distraction .. it’s right to the point.. kind of like just a pen, paper, a few photos and your soul..
my kind of theme – Simplicity without clutter and noise.. perfect place for writing ; )

hi, i like your list, especially no. 5. Thanks for stopping by!
Hi,
Thanks for stopping in and signing up! Love your journeys.
Photography and writing are two of mine too. I’m also currently traveling round costs rica with one small item of luggage. A simple carry on back pack. I was nervous at first but it’s working out perfectly. Maybe I even still have too much!
I love traveling lightly ! It’s a true art! ; )

I nominated you for the Versatile Blog Award. Not sure if you’ve been nominated before or if you have the time for it…but wanted you to know I enjoy your blog!
Thank you so much beautiful! It means a lot to me. I’m just so not good at all the awards thing..
The fact that you and others come here and read notes of this nutty lady, is so much more to me than any kind of award.
and I thank you for that!
I have met and continue to meet extraordinary souls here and that’s more then I could have ever asked for.

So glad to have stumbled upon your blog today! Simply beautiful.
Hi Elena. Thanks for liking my blog. Just read through your list of 27 things. Made me smile. You are certainly not typical Russian. All the Russian women I know would die if they couldn’t go to a nail parlour You are definitely eclectic. Keep it up
This made me laugh! Russell, you are right on the money with that remark! ( sorry ladies, but Russell spoke the truth ) My boyfriend said ” you know, u r pretty amazing.. cause women who look like you, can’t even tie their own shoes ” : ))
Amazing I stand .. and modest .. of course ..

ps – when I say I’ll be ready in 5, I actually mean that
Inspiring stuff! Thank you for liking my blog, from one like minded spirit to another!
El,
I ‘ve been inspired by the same Mark Twain quote and it ‘s resulted in my experiencing something not too dissimilar from your “I’m not good with planning” sentiment. It ‘s far more important to learn how to appreciate where one is (meaning especially who is around) without becoming engulfed by such a place — in other words, find people, find beauty and learn from them (record notes as needed).
Shukran,
JRL
Thanks for the like on my post you have a beautiful blog!
El,
What comes through in your writing is your enjoyment of life.
Stay true.
thanks for following me, you have very similar world views, nice to see there are more people like us out there, keep on walking, keep on exploring…

Love this blog and your outlook on life and travel! Thanks for liking my post and bringing me to your site!
Amazing that you came to America all by yourself — good for you. I’m jealous of your travels as well. keep up the great blog )))
Coming here was one of the most riskiest decisions of my life, but also the most rewarding one. It’s really hard not having a family to fall back on to for almost 9 years… it teaches you to be rock strong. No diploma is going to give you that kind of confidence & strength. Even though my life has taught me a whole lot of lessons along the way.. and then some, but I have made a conscious choice a long time ago, to never give up on my soul, truth and compassion.. and for that, I’m truly grateful.
Don’t be jealous darling ( it’s not all roses.. I promise you that!! ) .. you can do anything! … the world is at your fingertips..
love & light

Miss Elena.
I think I’m in love with you. But I do fall in love all the time.. which is good for both of us; me because its fun and you because that way i’m less creepy!
Anyway, you’re pretty and interesting and self-reliant and totally had me hooked even before the Mark Twain quote. I’ll be reading!
Oh darling! I’m blushing now.. and my bf is very jealous : ))
Thank you for sharing your spirit .. Will be reading u as well.
Wow, what an exciting life you lead! Thanks for taking the time to stop by and like one of my pictures
Elena … You are an inspiration. I leave for a week in Barcelona today and feel I might be just a little braver about trying something different because of what I’ve read of you. In recent years I’ve been plagued with anxiety issues related to PTSD and adrenal fatigue. This has really slowed me down and forced me to “play it safe,” but with help I’m gradually addressing these issues and things are getting better. I turn 50 this year and my goal for the years I have left, whatever number that may be, is to thrive, not merely survive. I’m going to follow your blog because I have this feeling you’re going to inspire me to do just that. … Having said that, you won’t find me wrestling with a python any time soon … … Thanks for visiting my blog “Eyes to Heart” and for clicking the “like” button. Be well … Dorothy
Dear Dorothy,
Thank you for sharing your story! You are a remarkable woman! Don’t ever forget that.. and if you do even for a second, come back here .. I will remind you.. ; )
Playing it safe only makes your soul smaller.. I’m so happy that you have courage and strength to turn your life around. I applaud you!
Thank you again, for your kind words and don’t ever give up, beautiful!
I only have to correct one little typo here .. “And my goal for the next 50 is … ” ; )
love & light to you!
el
ps – when is your big day?
Everything you have written, I agree with. So glad to meet you. Wishing you the very best in your life’s journey.
What a colorful life you live, El. Thanks for the like. My world is pretty small and unchanging compared to yours. I sure like the design of your blog. Best wishes!
I love how you described yourself here.
And I agree with you. It’s not the material things that matter but the memories we have made and shared and the number of lives we have touched.
I am thankful that I am able find another “happily unmarried” woman who believes that life is to be experienced. Let’s never stop following our dreams. Let’s do this!
By the way, do you have any plans of going to the Philippines? Let me know, I might be able to show you around.
Aubrey, lets! : )
thank you for “getting it” ..
I love being Happily Unmarried. I’d rather be that then ” unhappily married ” ( 90% of marriages ) I might get married someday.. but .. I doubt that anyone is capable of getting me that drunk .. ; )
I would love to visit Philippines in the near future and hope you will be able to show me around!

Great stuff El, I wish you well and am sure that you will realize it.
Richard
Biggest difference…The rise of buildings everywhere I’d say plus a flow of people from other parts of the world for business on the island. You can still find though things that are associated to CY from the old days when you go outside the main cities.
If you do decide to make the journey feel free to drop me a message, I might be around
oh wow..
you know what I miss most about Cyprus? … “Loukoumades” !!!! Oh how I miss them!! ..
Loukoumades…ah yes..my grandma makes them really good, memories..Do you speak greek btw? You seem to remember quite a few words.
I’m forgetting it .. my Russian is also not as good as it’s used to be .. I really would like to learn french.
I love number 12. This is a great blog.
Never stop; I’m looking forward to your 54 things.
BTW, I moved to Colorado in 2005 . . . I never knew what I was missing. We can often say that about many places (Hawaii and Alaska are my two others . . . so far), but at least for now I can’t envision living elsewhere. I liked your write-up on it, and I agree about the air.
Thanks for visiting my blog.
Thank you. Your comment made me smile : ) .. I can’t even begin to imagine number 54 .. but time flies so fast that.. i might be writing about 57 things (if i’m lucky) sooner than i think.
It was my first time in CO and the first thing I noticed was the air.. I couldn’t get enough of it .. hoping to visit it in the summer too.
Yeah, I used to not be able to imagine 58 (my current “thing”).
Now I think at 58 i’m still pretty young . . . err . . . not pretty (never was). Thing is, whenever I go by a mirror, and when I happen to look at it, it takes me a few seconds to figure out the old geezer staring back is me. That whole thing about inner beauty shining through? . . . not so much.
But don’t worry; you look like you’ll age gracefully.
gave me a chuckle..
but seriously age is just a number! You’re not old.. you’re experienced! ; ) and that, you can’t buy ..
A few words on aging gracefully; On my bedside table I have a wonderful card, that reads ;
I’m not easily impressed. . . but that’s imperssnig me!
Your intro is very inspiring. You have accomplished so much with such pain at an early age. You should give yourself full credit for all that you have and are. You sound like a beautiful person.
Thank you dear.. very kind of you. I actually chocked up when I read your comment..
love & light to you.

Thank you for visiting my blog and liking my post. It is a privilege to have something liked from someone like you. Your list of 27 things just brought me in awe of your spirit. I admire what you represent.

Very nice. I’m mixed race, one part being cypriot from Limassol. Enjoy your future trips and keep sharing them!
Love Limassol! Oh you cypriot guys!! .. Panaya mu, Panaya mu ! ; ) What’s the other part? So many of my school friends are still in Cyprus.. will be great to go for a reunion up there sometime as well.
I see you remember some essential phrases still The other part is from palestine. Was born in bulgaria raised in Cy, currently living in London When was the last time you went to the island?
ha ha, i could never forget that phrase even if I tried! heard it too much .. usually directed at my la vida loca life : )) I was baptised in Sofia. damn .. you have moved around.. but that’s great; you have multi-culture education which is more valuable than any diploma! I love London! So many of my friends live there. The last time I was in CY was 1999.
Yes, Panaya mu and koumpareare easily the most used phrases in Cy I was born in Sofia! I do agree with you though, having a multicultural educationgives you so much more than any diploma could. In general Traveling does. London is great but not a place I would spend all my life for sure. Doing a solo trip to Cuba in march so that should be fun! you should visit CY though, a lot has changed since 1999
Would love to see Cyprus again.. I’m sure it has changed .. what’s the biggest difference?
Have an amazing trip to Cuba!
safe travels,
let there always be a road..
Very inspiring, thank you for stopping by my post
I look forward to reading more of yours in the future
Thanks for clicking the ‘like’ button. Lovely blog. I believe that people who love to travel are blessed. Collecting memories and learning about others allows a person to look back on a life well lived.
so very true, couldn’t agree more.. thank you for kind words.

I want you to know how much “What’s your passion?” resonates within me. I accept and take it in as a whole, yet I focus in on specific passages tht seem to be written specifically for me. Thank you so much.
I would like to share something with you, that I have had for many, many years. Something similar to “pasion” in that it can be taken in as the whole and be zeroed in to it’s parts:
Centering With The Inner Master
Be at peace with yourself and
You will be at peace with all you meet.
When you’re not at peace with yourself, be alone.
Balance yourself, or seek guidance from a natural source.
Fill each day with a joy of living, and your mistakes will be
Transformed into lessons for your awareness.
Love the spirit within each person and action.
Dwell on negativity, and you will draw it to you.
Dwell on the light and you will lift yourself.
Serve in whatever way you can without expecting reward.
Expectations lead to disappointment and hurt feelings.
Your reward is your joy in doing.
Set aside a time each day to attune to the spirit.
For it is that attunement,
That brings you joy, harmony and love.
All else is illusion.
Seek perfection in the spirit,
There is no perfection in the physical.
Be patient, tolerant, and loving. Above all, accept.
For, it takes time to grow into your Godhood.
Be grateful for the lessons of each day.
Give thanks for the many opportunities you are given for growth.
Love yourself, and you will love all creation.
-Joy Irene Lasseter
Thank you again and peace,
Mike
Mike, wow!! Thank you so much for sharing this! These are truly inspiring words… so very true .. every word.. every single word. Thank you.

ps – I’m a first time blogger too, and still trying to figure this thing out.. I’m such a dinosaur when it comes to “codes” and html and other stuff .. for me it’s easier to solo backpack through Africa, then to write a wordpress post : ) So we are learning together.. that’s great thing!
Wow! What a compliment! I tried journaling many and it did not work! Blogging is doing wonders for my creativity, though!
See you in Cairo!
What a great blog…will be following you collecting memories and not things!

la la land : ) Beverly Hills
Wishing you lots of luck on your citizenship! I was speaking to someone recently who is originally from Croatia, and she reminded me of what it means to be an American citizen and how so many of us take our freedoms and advantages for granted.
Haha. Well, if you ever make it up to SF, give me a shout out!
Thank you, Jacqueline! I hope for the best & keeping my finders crossed. I’m in love with SF and visit it often! Would love to meet up for a drink or cup of coffee : )
That would be great! I’ll let you know if I’m ever down in Beverly Hills / LA.
Please do! That would be great! I like this wordpress thing.. : )
Wow! What a life. I truly admire your candor and boldness in being honest about who you are and are not. Look forward to hearing about more of your adventures! I’m on about 20 countries now, and as I was mentioning to a friend the other day, I purposely signed up for the thicker 52-page passport when renewing, and I want to do and see a LOT in the next 10 years!
Thank you Jacqueline! Life is a great adventure and it should be filled with days when we explore our world .. one country at a time or should I say.. 6 months at a time .. ! Looking forward to following your adventures around the world too! Thank you for your comment & a tip on getting a 52-page passport .. hopefully when I’m granted a US Citizenship in around 7 months time.. ( keeping my fingers crossed ! ) this has been the longest and toughest journeys of them all ..

: ) Thank you! Hope to meet someday too!
ps – I can’t believe your age!! You are stunning! wow!
Hello…. your list is inspiring, … number 9 and 25, we’re on the same boat…
Thank you. We should have a coffee sometime then ; )
Hi Elena, I saw that you were recently in Zion. Isn’t that an amazing place? You lead an inspiring life. It’s always nice to meet another person who loves traveling. Thank you for visiting my blog. You take some amazing photos. Love your hat in the recent Colorado post.
Oh thank you so much! So kind of you to say that. I’m only trying to stay true to myself and live the life that makes me happy, not the one that’s “prestigious” or “normal” .. etc.. People who put travel at the top of their list, benefit from it greatly. Other cultures fascinate me.. always have. It is so great to meet others who share my passion for travel and share stories from the road; the happy, the sad and everything in between.. while embracing every second : )
Zion is gorgeous! Especially at night when the sky is full of stars embraced by magical stillness.

Inspirational! Glad that you enjoyed Beaver Creek so much and other parts of Colorado. Let me know when you are next in downtown Denver. I know some great unique places that I think you would love…at least from what I gather about you from your beautiful and expressive photos.
No matter where I have traveled and where I still plan to travel to, I have a heart for Denver as my “home-base”. I hope you continue to enjoy Colorado when you can.
Besos to you!
Thank you Amalia! Would love to visit Denver and now I’m really intrigued about seeing ” unique places ” that you mentioned. You are really lucky! I haven’t found that “home-base” place.. yet … ; )
