Respect For Art
by Lena
New York is a beautiful place full of incredible artists. And I was fortunate to have worked with many beautiful souls over the years.
Unfortunately, there are also those, who give photographers a really bad name.
As a photographer and a person who respects other people’s Art, and Creative Expression, I will speak out. This man has been dishonest and disrespectful to many women in the industry, myself included. He tricks them into taking their pictures by any means he can, does not pay for their time and work, does not give them full credit where it’s due and tries to sell those pictures online or in any other way he can. When he doesn’t get what he wants he calls them untalented, uninteresting and selfish for not wanting to work with him for free. In the mean time, he profits by selling images of people without their release.
Even when I take a photo of a person, let’s say in Africa, Asia, South America or anywhere else I travel to, I try to offer some kind of money or a gift to them, as a simple ‘thank you’, for allowing me into their souls. If money is requested before the photograph is taken, I still oblige. Simply because I took a piece of them with me. It’s a simple respect for another soul. I can’t just snap a picture of a person, walk away and sell it on my site. That is NOT what Art & Life is about!
Without further adieu..
Meet Evgeny Silverman, a fella, who simply doesn’t care about anyone, except only his work, his success, his name and above all, his wallet.
WARNING TO ALL MODELS AND ARTISTS – STAY AWAY FROM THIS SO-CALLED PHOTOGRAPHER. HE HAS NO RESPECT FOR ANYONE.
DEAR EVGENY SILVERMAN,
Want to be known? You are known now. You pissed off a wrong gal.
(IF YOU SELL/PUBLISH MY IMAGE IN ANY WAY, I WILL COME AT YOU WITH FULL FORCE OF LAW)
You remind me of Joe in Morocco, he’s hotel went from number 2 to 11 on Tripadvisor for being a disrespectful stone-head to me a few years back. You and Joe, would make great friends, you have so much in common now… Most importantly, both of you ended up on my site in the most unflattering way (lucky you).
You are so desperate to promote your name, even if it means throwing all ethics out the window.
Next time, maybe you’ll be kinder, respectful and thankful to artists, who give you their soul, for you to capture with your camera, their talent, creativity and their time.
So many lessons, so little time…
All the very best in your future creative endeavours.
Salute!

Here’s a similar sentiment from another model
I concur.

just read this, but that is awful, what an asshole… ! It always amazes me how low humans can be, I had a boyfriend like that, talk about using people and being selfish!! my ex and this guy should get together, they would get along fine! but good for you for getting the word out. M.
Wonderful photograph.
Well said. Bravo!
Thanks for sharing!
I have never been much into art, but that person sounds like he needs to be punched in the face.
hehe .. that’s too drastic ) let’s just mess up he’s google search and images instead ; )
I never said Mr. T had to be the one punching him!
I don’t know anything about the art world but this person you write about sounds like a ass. I hope he learns and changes his tune thanks to your honest portrayal. This is my first visit to your blog and I look forward to reading much more! Michelle
The time is always right to do what’s right. ~ Martin Luther King
He still has time to make amends, apologise and do good.
He certainly however, crossed the wrong gal! Hope other models read your post and shun him.
All the best Lena.
Thank you for your support .. I love seeing your happy face here )
It takes little to tip a nod to someone creative, if that person has inspired you it leaves a trial of interesting heritage and influence, it gives one’s work meaning and depth. Not to give the citation not only robs the originator of respect they deserve but it demeans the ‘artist’s’ own work for being without context or texture. It is like a poppy in a field where you are not told the field is in Flanders.
beautifully said!
Woah…that’s really nasty! Sounds like he has very low self-worth…He will end up very lonely… I wish you all the best in all of your endeavors! Bravo for having high standards and morals! People like you prosper in the long run!
His work isn’t even that good. So dumb of him. If he was respectable I’m sure you & other models would cross promote him & help his business. What an ass.
exactly my point! I always try to promote talented artists. I love art and people who create, who feel, who struggle, because that is where masterpieces come from. We all struggle, we all make mistakes and we should build each other up, instead of stomping on souls and creativity of others. Maybe he will learn from this and will begin to see the world beyond he’s own nose. Maybe not. Unfortunately, don’t think he understands that what he is doing is wrong in any way.
I feel like more people need to value themselves while working for others. I am glad you wrote this, and hopefully others will notice that in the art industry, sometimes, only one person benefits from something that multiple people are part of.
agree.. unfortunately, I witnessed my father being robbed too many times of credit for his work… this particular fella, didn’t even apologize. If he did, I would not have written this.
Good on you! Some people deserve to be called out. All the best to you.

Thanks for the honest assessment…as others have said few do that these days.
Bravo! More people need to courage to expose these sleazy people. Please keep up the great adventure of life you are on and keep telling us! Thank you for allowing us to see the world through your eyes, and for opening ours.

I have never met Ms Levon. All I do is read her posts and learn from them. I hope this guy does the same. In business, it is hard to make real friends and very easy to make real enemies.
Hi, sometimes ‘I am’ are the most important words. Without saying them, nothing will even have the chance of changing for the better. Best wishes, Phil Stanfield.
Crappy people are just everywhere aren’t they😦 He’s the one missing out and living a miserable sad life.
