A powerful article; we passed through Fiji several decades ago — and stayed at a resort. I suspect the same can be said of many of the places we and other tourists have visited. I was fortunate, however, to have a few years with the Agency for International Development, so on my travels then, I was able to see a bit behind the scenes. But even then, I think my hosts often tried to “protect” me from seeing too much.
